the series chickcheck (2023)

consists of six diptychs, 12”x16”, of emilia, clementine, lulu, peggy, delilah and charlie, that I my husband and I brought up this summer. they capture the chicks’ development at two and four weeks of age, as “children” and “adolescents”, when you stil don’t know if they are actually going to become hens or roosters. the title refers to the “health check” - eyes, butts, weight gain - we performed every day as symbolic chick parents until they were able to move out of the heated tube in our bathroom to the crates in the sunroom. it also references the anticipation of the first eggs that represent the ultimate gender confirmation as well as the beginning of the neverending circle of life.
