BIO

Hello!
I’m Ania Poisson, an aspiring artist photographer and the creative behind imperfekt studio. I live and work in the Rocky Mountains, in a small town not far from Boulder, Colorado.

I grew up behind the iron curtain, became an adult exposed to somber literature on the other side of it before I finally settled in the US and remain influenced by the shift in perspective

I gained through the experience of moving overseas. One of the experiences was loosing my “language” and having to find another form of expression. Gradually I embraced the language of photography and work to explore its propensity to distort and to infuse ideologies. I have been creating stories with words (past) and images (presence) since I remember. They are often about the funny incongruity between what is and what was supposed to be. I am interested in the influence of heritage, politics and societal constructs on individuals. I peek under the surface of contemporary concepts of individual and social groups and doing so like to employ historic approaches and aesthetics. I aim to question or de-construct the “perfect” imagery cultivated in the mainstream photographic culture - family, fashion and of course social media photography - and its discriminatory legacy contributed to reinforcing typologies shaping and mis-shaping contemporary ideas. I hold a MA degree in comparative literature, an AAS in photography, as well as a kitchen table degree in abnormal psychology.

Story telling is my favorite vice.
